Bob Hall Pier Update

The County Commissioners showed their new plans for Bob Hall Pier on May 10. If you liked the crappy little pier we had, you’re gonna love the new pier. It’s the same dang pier! With one exception-they are now considering not having a restaurant on the pier at all!

Back in 2022, the Commissioners did an online Public Survey and asked us what we wanted in the new pier. We voted to build a bigger, better pier. In case you forgot, below are the results of the Public Survey the Commissioners released in Feb 2022. The most popular results are listed. I’ve struck through the results that the Commissioners have decided not to do. Bottom line: Instead of a nice updated pier with more useable public space, we got a little wider and more restrooms. And that’s it.

This is what we asked for …

This is what we are getting as of May 10, 2023 (unless they decide not to have a restaurant on the pier at all!)…

  • The outdoor dining is not larger.
  • There is no shade.
  • There is no second floor event space.
  • The restaurant is not larger.

We told the Commissioners what we wanted. They are not listening. Make your voice heard! Call and write these folks. Often.

And know this: the real head of our County government is Commissioner Chesney. He calls the shots, not the County Judge. If he wants things done, they get done. He can get us the nicer pier we voted on if he wants to. Remind him of that!

If you want the nice pier that we voted for, you better hound these people relentlessly:
