You have a chance to have your say on Important Things that will affect us locally. In the next two weeks, here’s what’s going on:
Padre Island National Seashore (PINS) put out a new plant to significantly change its operations. That would include severely cutting back the beloved sea turtle program. And limiting driving on the beach. Those two topics are sure to get interest up. There are two public meetings where you can let them know your opinions, Feb 21 and 22 at the State Aquarium. 6:30pm. You can also comment online or by postcard. Channel 3 has a good article on it: https://www.kiiitv.com/article/news/local/padre-island-national-seashore-beach-management-plan/503-bf91a1a1-72a3-4442-977f-258f2c090bb9
Bob Hall Pier’s new design will be revealed at the Coastal Park Board’s meeting Feb. 23 at 3pm at the Park office in Padre Balli Park. Public comments accepted. There is major concern that our penny pinching County Commissioners are trying to cut back on the nice pier design that the public demanded and the Commissioners previously approved. Right now there is lots of money floating around for new building projects. We expect our elected (for now) officials to find it and make sure the pier is as nice as what they previously voted on. The Parks Board will vote on the new design and then send their recommendations to the County Commissioners who will then vote on it.
